Methods for forecasting broadly fall into two categories: factographic and expert. Factographic methods rely on available statistics, with extrapolation, the transfer of past trends into the future, being a cornerstone.
Expert methods are employed when statistics are scarce or for truly innovative concepts. These can be individual, such as interviews or analytical notes, or collective, like the Delphi method, which involves anonymous multi-round expert surveys, or brainstorming sessions.
The "tree of goals" is a graphical method for decomposing a main strategic objective into sub-goals, tasks, and specific actions. The crucial rule here is that completing the tasks at the lowest level must guarantee the achievement of the main goal at the top by 100%.

The largest of these cycles are the Kondratiev waves, spanning forty to sixty years, and are intrinsically connected to major technological revolutions. Nikolai Kondratiev's genius lay in analyzing 150 years of economic data to demonstrate these super-crises.
